Never abroad again without a frikandel in your hand

Do you refuse to surrender yourself to a holiday destination without knowing for sure whether they sell your favourite snack? Is it always such a disappointment when you’re lying on a playa somewhere without a frikandel nearby? With this ‘World Map of Frikandels’, this problem is solved forever!

Frikandel Speciaal Geeks

Sometimes you come across things you didn’t know you needed, but once you find them, you can no longer imagine what you would do without them. For example, when you put curry on your toasted sandwich instead of ketchup for the first time, or fried onions on your hot dog. It happened again recently: my culinary life was enriched. Thanks to the Facebook group “Frikandel Speciaal Geeks.”

In this Facebook group, you’ll find more than 2,000 members who all have one thing in common: their unbridled love for the long brown sausage. Every day, the page is flooded with photos of everyone’s daily treat, heated discussions are held about which curry is best (according to the group’s poll, it’s Hela curry), and people speak enviously about those who put ketchup or even apple sauce (that was the devil) on their frikandel.

Frikantie

As a fervent frikandel eater, I read along with great affection and enjoy this spectacle. I also want to thank Ton, the group’s moderator. He shared with me, the group (which by now almost feels like family), and the wonderful world of Google Maps, a world map with frikandel locations. The map is called “Frikandel speciaal abroad” and its description reads: “Where on earth can I find a Frikandel speciaal abroad?” Poor Ton, the frustration drips from this description. Searching and searching.

But luckily, he found them! And he makes our lives a lot easier by sharing his tips with us. It turns out you can find the Frikandel speciaal, the pride of the Netherlands, far beyond our national borders! Nepal, Thailand, Aruba, Canada, Egypt, Bulgaria—you name it! Thank you, Ton; thank you, Google; we can go on frikantie again with peace of mind.
