The jury has spoken: this is the tastiest supermarket frikandel

Frikandellen for breakfast, lunch and dinner; it’s perfectly acceptable. Spread it on your bread, go fancy with high-frikandellen or get into the Friday-night mood already with the discodel. But which frikandel is the tastiest for home? AD put it to the test.

No longer seeing the forest for the frikandel trees
Tasty frikandellen for home are essential. Wake up with a hangover? Slide a del into the deep fryer and you’ll be ready to go again after this greasy snack. Having dinner with friends at home? Serve a frikandel snack beforehand instead of a dry sausage and a cube of cheese.
Producers are responding well to this, and fortunately supermarket freezer sections are packed with them. But even we sometimes can’t see the forest for the frikandel trees (omg, can you imagine?) anymore. Fortunately, Algemeen Dagblad assembled a jury, including our very own Snackspert, Eke Bosman. With him on your frikanjury, you know you can trust the final verdict blindly.
Flexidel
The three panel members blind-taste the deep-fried frikandellen from eight supermarket (house) brands. Air-fryer or oven varieties are not included, which makes sense: a frikandel is naturally at its best in the deep fryer. They really taste only the del, without sauce or onion. In addition to smelling and tasting them, all the dels are spun around in a small ‘helicopter test’. After all, you don’t want your frikandel to break too easily or turn out to be too elastic, but simply to be as it should: a tasty flexidel.
And the winner is…
Mora’s frikandellen! This del was unanimously chosen as the favorite. The best color, an excellent meaty flavor and a pleasantly greasy mouthfeel. The most pork fat (20 percent) and the least mechanically separated chicken meat (46 percent).
