The former HAK figurehead died on Thursday 30 May in her studio in Maarssen, surrounded by family members, as a result of the brain haemorrhage she suffered in September 2015.

At the time, Bijl was the presenter of the popular programme Heel Holland Bakt. She presented the first three seasons, until she fell ill in September 2015 and André van Duin took over from her.

Martine Bijl began her career as a singer. She also appeared in popular TV programmes such as Wie van de Drie and Het Zonnetje in Huis. She also wrote a book, Rinkeldekink, which was published last November.
