Handy: this is how to keep your donuts fresh for the longest

donuts

When I buy donuts, I immediately buy a whole box. Because really, who eats just one donut?! Often, my eyes are bigger than my stomach and a considerable number of those Oreo- or tompouce- donuts are left over. You can store them, but make sure you keep the following in mind.

We have already written a number of useful guides on storing food. For example, it’s best to store almond flour in the refrigerator, while butter should actually be left out. With donuts, either option works, depending on how long you want to store them.

Room temperature

If you plan to eat the leftover donuts within a day or a few hours, it’s best to store them outside the refrigerator at room temperature. Unless they’re filled with a creamy filling. It’s best to store them in an airtight container or wrap them in plastic wrap. Make sure you do this firmly and that no air can get in, because that will make the donuts dry.

Refrigerator

Do you want to store them for longer than a day or two? Then put them in the refrigerator, for example on a plate covered with plastic wrap or in the same kind of airtight container. Chilling the donuts keeps them delicious for longer.

Freezer

Have so many left over that you won’t be able to eat them all within a week? Then put them in the freezer. They’ll stay good for about three months. Wrap them individually (otherwise the separate donuts will become one big frozen donut) in foil and then put them in a container. That way, whenever you crave a sugared ring, you can simply take one out of the freezer, let it thaw, (heat it in the microwave!) and eat it. In fact, that’s exactly what I’m going to do right now, mmm!
