Hannah’s is the loveliest living-room restaurant in Amsterdam

Imagine a restaurant where you not only eat delicious food, but also leave with a smile because you know you’re contributing to something wonderful. That’s Hannah’s in Amsterdam-West. Here, it’s about more than good coffee, pasta and a lovely glass of wine. At Hannah’s, you can taste the power of connection.

Hannah’s: where everyone takes part
What makes Hannah’s special? The team. Here, people with intellectual disabilities play a fully-fledged role in the service and kitchen, as part of their day programme. It makes the service so genuine and warm that you think: why don’t more restaurants do this?
A place with a story
Founder Laura started the restaurant five years ago – during corona, which wasn’t exactly what you’d call a flying start – and named it after her little sister Hannah, who was born with a brain injury. There’s a loving atmosphere that’s difficult to fake. Guests are welcomed with care, every espresso is prepared thoughtfully and every dish is served with extra love.

The cosy living-room atmosphere completes the picture. Whether you take a seat on the cosy sofa, at the bar, at one of the tables or at the back of the enormous space (with a games cupboard); it’s hardly surprising that this is a lovely place for local residents. (And a tip: you can also hire out this space for private dinners.)
On the menu: Mediterranean dishes
Hannah’s kitchen is inspired by the flavours of Southern Europe, with dishes that are guaranteed to make you happy. The menu is clearly divided into small dishes, large dishes, side dishes and desserts. This means you can mix and match – and the same goes for the drinks, as each dish comes with a matching drink suggestion.

Our recommendations from the menu
- Italian sausage roll with pancetta and minced beef. Not a soggy pastry, but a substantial piece of meat with a lovely crust
- Quail with Parma ham and pea pesto. That pea pesto scores a 10/10 (we shamelessly licked our plate clean with our fingers)
- Ravioli with spinach and ricotta, cooked en papilotte and opened at the table for a fragrant show of tarragon, leek and creaminess. A hit in terms of presentation, preparation and flavour.

From breakfast to aperitivo
At Hannah’s, you’re welcome for a great start to your day with specialty coffee, an extensive lunch with fresh focaccias or a relaxed drink with a cocktail, wine or homemade lemonades. Dinner is also served on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. You may not be served by colleagues from the day programme then, but it’s still wonderfully relaxed. Because Hannah’s is a place centred around a love of food and humanity, and you can feel that.
Here, you don’t just eat well, you eat for a good cause too. And that’s what makes Hannah’s the loveliest living-room restaurant in Amsterdam.
