Having drinks in quarantine with all your friends. This is how you do it!

Life in quarantine is pretty miserable. I miss my family, friends, good restaurants and the pub. And preferably a combination of those 5 things. But luckily, there’s the Houseparty app. It makes life in quarantine a lot more bearable! And this is how it works:

Houseparty!
Step 1. Download the Houseparty app on your phone. This app has existed since 2016 and, until a few days ago, I had never heard of it. But as you can imagine, this app is now being downloaded like crazy to combat that scary loneliness during quarantine. Before corona, the app was number 304 among the most downloaded social apps in the App Store; now it’s number 2. Not surprising either, because you can play all kinds of fun games together! Drawing, trivia and Forbidden Word, for example.
What’s on the menu?
The great thing about this new way of having drinks in 2020 is that you’re together, yet still alone. So you can decide for yourself what food and drinks you bring into the house. Having drinks in bed with a bottle of wine? Go for it! You can also make more of an occasion of it. Make yourself a delicious espresso martini or go all out with the snacks. Oh, speaking of snacks. There’ll never be any more arguing about that! Chips and popcorn, an hour of deep-frying or salmon and tuna sashimi? Something for everyone! And perhaps the very best part: nobody has to be the designated driver.
10 advantages of having drinks together solo
- You’ll never arrive cold and wet after a difficult bike ride into a headwind.
- No queue at the coat check, and no elbowing your way to the bar.
- It’s a lot more affordable.
- Your favorite wine is always on the menu.
- Do you smoke? Chill! You don’t have to go outside (and isn’t it time to quit anyway?!)
- When you’ve had enough, you don’t have to awkwardly say goodbye to everyone; you’re gone with the press of a button.
- Finally, a large portion of bitterballen instead of 5 pitiful pieces with far too little mustard.
- No unwanted attempts to hit on you.
- Are you also always annoyed by the wrong music choices in cafés? That’s a thing of the past too!
- If you’ve looked a little too deeply into your glass, your bed is fortunately always nearby.
I rest my case, having drinks at home “by yourself” isn’t so bad after all.
