HelloFresh delivers meal box and live mouse
What do you do when your meal box rustles? Nele from East Flanders didn’t pay much attention to it, until a live mouse emerged from under her steak. There was a mouse in her HelloFresh order. The customer service response: ‘What a shame.’
She could have known something was wrong, because a few packages were slightly damaged, Nele noticed when she unpacked the groceries. But she didn’t pay any further attention to it; she was hungry and immediately started cooking. Until she heard a rustling sound coming from the box, where some items were still inside. When she took the steak out of the box, a mouse suddenly leapt out. She screamed, and her husband chased the mouse outside – but not before they took a few photos of their stowaway.
‘What a shame’
Naturally, Nele immediately called HelloFresh customer service. ‘What a shame,’ was the response. Could she still use any of the groceries? ‘I really wasn’t going to eat anything else from that box,’ says Nele. ‘Everything went straight into the bin.’ Customer service said they would investigate how this could have happened; Nele would hear from them.
Mouse droppings
And she heard: nothing. After a message from them – ‘We’re working on it’ – things remained quiet for another two weeks. Then Nele had had enough. She posted the whole story, including photos, on Facebook. You can clearly see that the mouse nibbled on the feta cheese, that there are mouse droppings in the box and that other packages are damaged. But Nele received no compensation for her box, no apology and no response from customer service.
Mousetrap
Thousands of people respond to her complaint on Facebook. Ouch, that’s not the best publicity for HelloFresh. They quickly take action: they are going to place extra mousetraps, and Nele doesn’t have to pay for the box. And the next box? It isn’t coming: ‘I immediately cancelled my subscription.’
