Here You Can Taste the Most Exclusive Whiskies in the World

Do you enjoy an occasional glass of whisky, or are you a true whisky connoisseur? Then Bar Vault, at Amsterdam’s Waldorf Astoria, is the place to be. From today, you can taste two extremely rare single malt Scotch whiskies there.

The former bank vault at Herengracht 548 is being opened for the most exclusive single malt Scotch whiskies in the world: the superior and extremely rare The Dalmore 40YO 42% ABV and Port Ellen 39 years Untold Stories. The collection is scarce and highly sought-after worldwide; the chance to taste these whiskies does not come along often. Bottles like these are often bought immediately by whisky collectors and investors.
The Dalmore
Dalmore Distillery has the oldest collection in the Scottish Highlands. Its absolute showstopper is the Dalmore 40YO 42% ABV. According to Master Blender Richard Paterson, it is a masterpiece of the highest order. Or, as he puts it: “A tapestry of tantalizing delight!”. The special maturation in unique casks creates an exceptionally smooth whisky with many complex layers. For those who are not (yet) ready for the highly exclusive 40-year-old Dalmore, there are attractive alternatives, such as a Dalmore whisky flight. For €70, you can taste a 12YO, cigar malt & King Alexander III. A private masterclass can also be booked, including a whisky flight and food pairing.

Port Ellen
Port Ellen is a household name among enthusiasts. It is one of the most prestigious ‘ghost distilleries’: distilleries that no longer produce whisky and release increasingly rare collectible stocks onto the market. The last whisky was distilled at the Port Ellen distillery on the Scottish island of Islay in 1983. As supplies dwindle, Port Ellen whisky is becoming increasingly sought-after as a collector’s item. The Untold Stories collection represents one of the highest achievements. Only 1,500 bottles of the Port Ellen 39 years Untold Stories are available worldwide. The Vault Bar managed to acquire three bottles from the very last stock in the world.

The Key Ring
The exclusivity is already obvious, but the distilleries take it one step further. The whiskey bottles are also packaged in a safe. Fortunately, Bar Vault, one of Amsterdam’s most beautiful cocktail bars, has the 2 unique keys hanging on its (now enormous) key ring…
