Hey snack lovers: this is where you can buy the best bamibal in the Netherlands

Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has devoured at least 1,500 burgers in his life, suspects there’s more mayonnaise in his body than blood, and shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav. This time he ate the bamibal (and it really hit the spot), tried vegan drumsticks, and discovered that Lidl still has some room for improvement.

The bamibal from Automatiek Beursken, Velp

Here’s some definitive snack advice: if you’re ever near Velp, you have to (and I don’t like the verb ‘have to’, but this is an exception) go to Automatiek Beursken. Because they have the best bamibal in the Netherlands. Frans Bauer is already a fan, so you should be one too. And me. Boom. And yes, the true snack expert knows that Fons Hof in Haarlem also serves up some seriously excellent bamiballs, but this is simply a Messi–Ronaldo situation. Automatiek Beursken’s ball is so creamy, like a goal into the top corner. Truly spot-on. Deliciously salty on the inside, bami as soft as a cuddle, yum. And then hot satay sauce (not too spicy, thankfully) to top it all off. As far as I’m concerned, Velp has a monument, and that monument is called Automatiek Beursken. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Plant-based drumsticks from Vivera

It wasn’t until just before writing this review that I discovered these spicy drumsticks from Vivera aren’t vegetarian, but fully vegan. It’s like discovering that the rubber dild—no, NO, NO, don’t go there. Stop it now. Back to the point, because the spicy drumsticks are genuinely fantastic. The spicy coating provides plenty of flavour, but the filling—made from soy and wheat proteins—is also iron (haha, it also contains added iron) strong. Is there anything negative to say? Sure, I think they’re a little small, because they’re gone in no time. So watch out. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sauerkraut-smoked sausage roll from Lidl

A sauerkraut-smoked sausage roll from Lidl, well, well! And compared with the one from the big blue competitor whose name rhymes with Kwalbert Pijn, this one is much more appealing to look at. But in terms of flavour too: the balance between sauerkraut, mustard and meat is spot-on here. The only downside is the dough—it’s too firm and too thick, making it seem as though you first need to hire a few builders before you can get to the meat. Another thing: the sausage is just as thin as a small frikandel. I don’t really think that suits a smoked sausage. So yes, good flavour, but there’s still plenty of room for improvement. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
