High tea? High fries!

Get rid of that cheap plastic tray—eating fries can be done differently, thought the owners of recreation center In Alle St(r)aten in Dieden. So they came up with High Fries. Now, three years later, it’s still a hit.

High Fries: what is it?
What does that buffet table look like? A table laden with mini snacks, from chicken nuggets to cheese bites, a wooden board full of bitterballen, small frikandellen speciaal and all kinds of different sauces. “With High Fries, you get different types of fries: thin fries, thick farmhouse fries, rösti and potato croquettes. Alongside these, we have every kind of snack you can think of. And then four different salads for people who want to eat a little healthier,” explains Arthur van der Straten, owner of In Alle St(r)aten.
Ten people
Arthur: “The idea originally came from high tea. But we know that by now, and everyone loves fries, so we transferred the high tea concept to fries and snacks.” To enjoy a ‘high fries’ experience, you need to round up at least ten friends; for €15 per person, you get the entire buffet table. They only offer this in combination with an activity at the recreation center (where they have escape rooms, VR rooms and drone workshops). “We’re constantly getting calls asking whether five people can reserve a High Fries on Friday evening. We don’t do that, because it’s genuinely only available in combination with an activity we provide.”
