Hilarious: TikToker shares tips to keep up with that super-fast Aldi cashier

Kassa Aldi

I love Aldi. Their own-brand products are fantastic: they didn’t win awards (again) for nothing. And even in these extreme times of inflation, a trip to Aldi is still enjoyable—although Kassa’s supermarket investigation was pretty shocking. It showed that Aldi is actually quite a bit more expensive than we all think. But what really makes me nervous are those extremely small checkout conveyor belts combined with Aldi’s super-fast cashiers.

And I’m mainly talking about the section after the checkout. That platform is ridiculously small: put a loaf of bread and a carton of iced tea on it and it’s full. If you also happen to have an extremely fast cashier, the panic really sets in. You see the line of irritated customers getting longer and longer, and you start to sweat. How on earth are you supposed to keep up with that cashier? TikToker Uyen Ninh (@uyenthininh) came up with some hilarious solutions for this.

3 tricks to keep up with the Aldi cashier

First of all: we understand that cashiers are under pressure to work at a certain pace. Because time is money. But if the stress of packing your groceries quickly really becomes too much, you can always try the tips below.

1. Go all in

This trick is especially ideal if the checkout conveyor belt is the size of a Playmobil set. Stand at the end of the belt, hold your shopping bag open and let the cashier slide the groceries into your bag. This way, you kill two birds with one stone: you skip one step (namely putting the groceries into your bag) and keep the pace going nicely. You’re happy, the cashier can keep up, and that gigantic line of customers is happy too.

2. Bring extra hands

Why do this job with two hands when you can do it with four? So always bring an extra helper. And as you can see in the video, they don’t have to get in the way at all. Keep moving—that’s what we want.

3. Inspire pity

Older people in supermarkets often trigger a kind of Pavlovian response in employees. People generally assume that older generations are a little slower, so employees slow down their movements too. Uyen’s tip: go to the supermarket dressed as an older person. Put on a wig, wear your grandma’s vintage cardigan and you can pass for that cute old lady from next door. Yes, it takes a little effort, but at least your stress about packing quickly will be gone.

Tips from Aldi (and this time, seriously)

Of course, we’re taking the TikTok video with a grain (or an entire pack) of salt. But seriously: packing your groceries is quite an art. Aldi understands that and gives us a few useful packing tips. For starters, they recommend placing your groceries on the belt in a smart way: by category. So heavy products together, light products, glass jars, and raw fish and meat. Done? Sprint to the end of the belt and start grabbing.

Aldi advises us to distribute the weight. Heavy products first, then light products, with fragile products on top (such as eggs and crisps). We learned that at home when we were younger. Oh, and always pack raw fish and meat separately. If they start leaking onto your fresh apples, you’ll really be in trouble. Good luck on your next grocery trip!
