Hit on TikTok: eat a lemon peel and get really high

citroenschilchallenge

Last week I couldn’t sleep and decided to delve into the wonderful world of TikTok once again. And there I found all kinds of remarkable things. It is TikTok, after all, isn’t it? But honestly: it’s actually been pretty useful.

For example, I found the absolute best mascara ever thanks to the app, and I find useful iPhone hacks there. My favorites are the food hacks, such as those spicy Taki’s chips, which I think are truly amazing. And amazingly expensive, by the way, for a mini bag that’s 80 percent air.

Seriously? Are we eating lemon peels now?

Anyway, I came across another TikTok trend on the account of @kellymexy. I think she’s absolutely hilarious to follow because she’s so funny. But that also made it a little difficult, because I couldn’t tell whether she was taking the piss with this TikTok hack or whether she was being serious.

Google provided the answer: eating lemon peel is actually a thing. Now, lemon peel is packed with vitamins and all that, but that’s not why all of TikTok is eating lemon peels now. No, apparently the peel is supposed to give you a euphoric feeling within 45 minutes of consuming it. High on drugs without drugs but with lemons – the whole “when life gives you lemons” thing sounds a lot more pleasant this way.

The proof is in the eating

Although it hasn’t been scientifically proven that it actually works, according to Kelly, only women are susceptible to this euphoric lemon-peel feeling. And it would also give you an incredible amount of energy. On top of that, it is particularly disgusting. You know what? I’m going to put it to the test today, because according to this BuzzFeed article, you really do notice something (although she didn’t feel “high”) and Kelly is pretty enthusiastic too. So if you see me bouncing around somewhere in Amsterdam tonight, you’ll know: it worked. But if that’s the case, you’ll obviously hear from me again.

@kellymexyFirst of all, yes, it’s safe to eat lemon peels. They contain many vitamins, minerals, and fibers, so they are beneficial to your health♬ original sound – Kelly
