Cut Throat

Cut Throat knows a thing or two about beards, but now people without facial hair are more than welcome too. Because the barbershop on Amsterdam’s Beursplein has given itself a new look. And that means, among other things, a gigantic terrace, colourful cocktails and Caribbean street food.

The terrace

There were already benches outside the barbershop on Beursplein. Now a terrace has been added. And what a terrace it is. It’s the largest—and sunniest—terrace in Amsterdam’s city centre. Fun fact: from 1930 to 1996, there was also a barbershop here, for stockbrokers—the door to the trading floor is still there.

The menu

Alongside the sunny terrace, temperatures are also running high on the new menu. Because ‘barber plus’ Cut Throat called in Ed’s Caribbean Street Food and bartender Vitaly Alekseev (known from THE DUCHESS) for the necessary fireworks.

Who is the chef

The kitchen is chef Eudia Waarheid’s domain. She has cooked at international restaurants in Suriname and the Netherlands. With Ed’s Caribbean Street Food, she puts her heart and soul into every pot and pan.

What can you expect

Empanadas, sweet potato fries, salt cod croquettes, crispy cassava fries, açai bowls. And, of course, jerk chicken is also on the menu: the chicken, marinated for 24 hours in jerk spice, comes with yellow rice, beans and a fresh (cabbage) salad. The heat? That comes from the homemade salsas. Don’t be too generous with them.

What do you drink with it

The cheerful Russian Vitaly serves refreshing boozy slushies and brightly coloured highballs, as well as a signature Bloody Mary with Caribbean spice. Above all, try the Cut Throat Colada: the slushy with whisky, pineapple and coconut. The Caribbean has never felt so close.

Most striking dish

Pastalon: a mighty lasagna made with plantain, spiced minced meat, cheese and vegetables. Topped with a perfect baka bana. It gives you enough energy to dance the merengue all evening.

Interior

A large letter board reading ‘Congratulations. You made it outta bed! Enjoy our food + drinks’. Authentic barber chairs, well-coiffed gentlemen, a bar and DJ booth for a relaxed dose of hip-hop beats.

Ideal place for

Cut Throat is a one-stop shop for a new cut, colourful cocktails and Caribbean street food. Even if you don’t have a beard.

What brings us back

The cassava fries with Creole mayo, boozy slushies and veggie curry (with jackfruit). And the Caribbean vibe. Because it’s so good!

Value for money

Very good. The main courses cost about the same as the average takeaway meal from the corner toko. The authentic Caribbean vibe comes free of charge.
