How to make crispy croutons in the Airfryer in no time

croutons

There are a few things you should be able to tick off when you want to make a delicious salad, including: is it salty enough, is it acidic enough and, very importantly, does it have a good crispy bite? With croutons, for example, you can always answer the last question with a resounding YES, and those crunchy bread cubes also work wonderfully in soup.

Homemade croutons are absolutely delicious, and really make those bland, greasy cubes from the supermarket pale in comparison. They’re incredibly simple to make, and if you save and use your old bread for them, you’re being very sustainable too. Plus, they’re super easy to make in the Airfryer!

It couldn’t be easier

You only need three ingredients, but feel free to vary the herbs, and try mixing a finely chopped clove of garlic into the oil. They’re especially delicious when made with sourdough bread, and bonus points, of course, for homemade sourdough bread like our Sabina does! Use three slices of bread, cut them into strips and then into cubes, and toss them in a mixing bowl with 3 tbsp olive oil, 1/4 tsp salt and a level teaspoon of mixed herbs or spices (for example, Italian herbs or ras-el-hanout).

Bake them for 5 minutes in an Airfryer at 200 degrees, let them cool and store them in an airtight container. If they even make it that far, because the croutons I don’t put in a salad, soup or stew are usually eaten just like that, standing at the kitchen counter one after another! Healthier than crisps, I tell myself…
