How to make homemade cookies even more delicious

By now, we’ve all jumped on the ‘sweet things need a generous pinch of salt’ bandwagon, right? Chocolate ice cream with sea salt, half-and-half popcorn at the movies, caramel beurre salée straight from the jar and that Ben & Jerry’s flavor: all amazing. So be sure to try making cookies with pieces of this surprising salty snack too!

Because you know what else you can do with this crowd-pleaser, besides chomping it millimeter by millimeter between your front teeth like a little beaver? Upgrade your cookies with salty pretzel sticks!
Sweet + salty = better
Not such a strange combination when you consider that salt often makes things taste more like themselves. It brings out the qualities of something, as it were—just think how shocking bread without salt is, or how bland cake is without a pinch of salt. So everything that’s good about your sweet treat can really shine with a little salt.
Small stick, big effect
And what else do those humble little sticks add to your bakes? Crunch! And crunch is delicious, end of story. Because as far as we’re concerned, pretty much any texture that adds extra body is welcome in a dish.
How?
Simply chop or break them into rough pieces and add them to your cookie dough at the same point when you might mix in other treats such as chocolate chips, nuts, raisins, M&M’s—whatever. You know what? Throw everything in! A guaranteed party.
The fancy sister
Of course, you can also go all fancy-ass and choose pretzels (the small ones from the chips aisle, not the big soft bread ones), if you happen to be particularly fond of the twists they come in. But hey, you’re going to smash them into rough pieces anyway, so what does it matter? Get to work and start baking!
