How to order your food ‘corona-proof’
By now, we’re used to contactless payment, but as the coronavirus spreads, Domino’s Pizza and AH are now introducing contactless delivery as well. In other words: accepting your order without touching the delivery driver.
How does that work? Throwing it over? Pizza through the letterbox? No, of course not. You indicate online that you want to accept the order without contact. In that case, the delivery driver places the opened insulated bag in front of your door, takes two steps back and waits for you to open the door and take the food out of the bag. Payment is made in advance via online banking, and after the ‘handover’, the delivery driver moves on to the next order.
In Brabant, Albert Heijn delivery drivers do more or less the same: since last Saturday, orders have been delivered up to the front door.
Why?
Whether this really makes a difference is debatable. The chance of delivery drivers and customers infecting each other is negligible. The feature is primarily intended for customers who are already in quarantine because of the virus, but also for people who are very worried, afraid of becoming infected when ordering, and of course for the delivery drivers themselves.
It isn’t mandatory, by the way. You can choose whether to tick the box yourself. It is not yet clear how long the option will remain available.
