Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has devoured at least 1,000 burgers in his life, suspects that his body contains more mayonnaise than blood, and shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav every other week.

Seriously heavenly
Halloumi burger, The Beef Chief Amsterdam

If cheese were porn, I would definitely cast halloumi in Kim Holland’s next porn film. I’d call the movie Hallou-mi So Horny. Nice, right? Why halloumi, you ask? Well, halloumi is cheese that doesn’t melt—you can grill it instead. If you’ve never tried it: stop vacuuming and go look for halloumi at the supermarket. Or head to The Beef Chief in Amsterdam-Noord, the place with the most five-star ratings in the history of my page. And honestly: here’s another one. Maybe I’m this place’s Jehovah’s Witness, but I’ll say it again: it’s hea-venly. I’ve never eaten halloumi this delicious before. This one is tender and not rubbery at all, unlike much of the halloumi I’ve eaten. Put some red onion, tomatoes, and lettuce on top of the grilled cheese, add some delicious kimchi (fermented cabbage) remoulade, and you’ve got one of the tastiest burgers you’ll ever eat. My goodness, what a treat. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Rebel Whopper from Burger King

Big news in snack country: Burger King has a vegetarian Whopper! No way, that’s not true! It is true. In collaboration with The Vegetarian Butcher, so it’s also a point of Dutch pride—but you know what’s strange? It’s not available in the Netherlands yet, but it is in Germany, for example. Good grief, imagine Ajax playing its matches in Frankfurt from now on, and André Hazes holding his fan days in Vienna—honestly. But hey, luckily the friends at EditieNL picked up a real ‘Rebel Whopper’ just across the border near Nijmegen. And I got to try it! As if Willem-Alexander asked you to eat a frikandel with him while Maxima screamed at the top of her lungs, CHECK OUT THAT FREAK EATING GROSS FOOD HAHA. Right, enough nonsense: the Rebel Whopper, a vegetarian Whopper, is pret-ty good. That’s all. It reminds you of a regular one, and that’s good news. But I do have one major criticism, because you can’t really taste the fake meat through the large amount of sauce and toppings. Well, I could do that too. Once you eat the ‘meat’ on its own, you notice quite a difference from the regular Whopper. But Burger King and The Vegetarian Butcher are heading in the right direction, and this is certainly a decent start—though now it’s a matter of pushing forward and improving. Keep it co-ming. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Philly cheesesteak pizza from Domino’s

Some people only have to hear “I’m wearing nothing underneath ?” and they’re already aroused, but last week I had the same reaction to “Domino’s has a Philly cheesesteak pizza,” and I think that’s comparable. Philly cheesesteak—how delicious is that? Sliced pieces of steak with melted cheese. If you’re allowed to eat that, it’s basically like your partner telling you that every corner of the room is going to get some action?! Exactly. Apparently Domino’s is having American weeks now, and this pizza is one of them. But it’s a bit like a disappointing one-night stand: I didn’t feel relieved after putting my mouth on this one. No, there were too few strips, in my opinion the cheese had solidified far too much, and it simply didn’t taste like the Philly cheesesteak we’re used to in America. The pepper strips are also a little too limp; the red onion provides a small measure of salvation, but that’s about it. Look, I’ll always eat a pizza, but I expected so much more from this one. ⭐️⭐️
