What should you eat against the coronavirus?

The coronavirus. People are now starting to panic slightly. Canned food is gradually being stockpiled, and the shelves at Kruidvat where soap and disinfectant hand gel normally sit are now empty. But we at FavorFlav know that there’s a much better way to combat infection. It’s all about the food and in the case of a virus: the stinkier, the better.

Garlic
If you can even use it to ward off vampires, then surely it can ward off the coronavirus too. And the best part, unlike a number of other options on this list, is that garlic is naturally mega delicious! Eat extra garlic bread, garlic sauce and add a few extra cloves to every dish over the coming weeks. Really panicking? Take cloves along in a little bag to work, school and the gym and simply chew away.
Surströmming
This fish dish’s reputation: the stinkiest food in the world. And even if it’s only 1/10th as bad as it appears in this video, that’s already good enough to fight the coronavirus. Take a can with you and open it on the metro or at work. People will undoubtedly stay away from you, and on top of that your boss won’t bother you anymore about that one deadline you missed. Win-win.
Andouillette
This French sausage is guaranteed to keep people at a distance. Edouard Herriot, former mayor of Lyon, once said: “Politics is like an andouillette; it should smell a little like shit, but not too much.” You get it: andouillette smells like shit. Or, as Sharon still shudders when recounting that one terrible time she was served the sausage: “It smells like a body in an advanced state of decomposition.” Bon appétit!
1000 year old egg
The 1000-year-old egg is a delicacy in Taiwan, and in the wonderful world of YouTube, a popular egg to eat—and then vomit up. People say the egg is soaked in horse urine. This is a myth; the eggs simply smell of urine and are perfectly safe to eat. We’ll skip the vomiting videos on YouTube for now, because this egg is actually delicious with tofu and soy. Its strong pee smell does leave an unpleasant stench in your mouth, though. So for adventurous eaters, this is an excellent anti-corona dish.
Say cheese
You can also make it enjoyable for yourself by eating delicious cheeses. Fun for you, less fun for those around you. Smelly cheese often means it’s very tasty, but the smelliness naturally lingers. Go for Limburger cheese or Vieux-Boulogne. Want to be absolutely sure people take a wide berth around you? Go for Casu Marzu. The cheese ripens for so long that cheese-fly larvae settle inside it. These maggots eat the cheese from the inside, and their excrement forms a creamy layer. The best description of the smell? Vomit.
Wash it down
Having trouble getting all these dishes down? Do your best anyway; it’s worth it. People will walk around you, won’t want to kiss you anymore and will keep a safe distance. Need something to help get it down? Obviously, how could it be otherwise; everything above pairs wonderfully with a Corona with a slice of lime.
