Huh?! ‘Ordinary’ croquette at Blijdorp turns out to have been vegetarian for 3 years already

Well, that’s a monkey out of the sleeve! Anyone who orders a croquette at Diergaarde Blijdorp gets a vegetarian (and since this year even vegan) version. And most visitors to the zoo haven’t realized that for 3 whole years. Say what?!

Green check mark
The menu doesn’t say that you’re ordering a vegan croquette. You can only tell from the green check mark after ‘croquette’. The meaning of that check mark doesn’t register with all visitors, but Blijdorp hardly receives any comments about it. Most visitors find the croquette delicious and can’t believe it’s a vegan croquette. They must be doing something right, because we’ve seen more than enough vegan products come by that were a lot less successful. The vegetarian sausage rolls from Jumbo, for example, just to name one.
An animal-friendly choice
The choice to offer only a vegan version of the croquette fits Blijdorp’s mission: to help its visitors make an animal-friendly and healthier choice. In the future, the zoo even expects to offer almost no meat products to customers at all.
