If You Can’t Get Enough of Them: IKEA Is (Temporarily) Launching a Meatball-Scented Candle
Many a wallet proudly holds one of those orange cards, and if not, there’s always the app on your phone: the Ikea Family loyalty program has many fans. If you have an iron bladder and can endlessly knock back coffee and tea, then with such a membership you can enjoy unlimited free coffee and tea in the restaurant, and it also comes in handy for various offers. And to celebrate Ikea Family’s tenth anniversary in this country, the company came up with a particularly amusing item:
A scented candle with the distinctive aroma of one of Ikea’s biggest hits: the (plant-based) Swedish meatballs. If you’re a truly massive fan and would love to roll around in the aroma of their Huvudroll (the vegan version of the original Swedish meatballs), you can enter a lottery in which a limited number of the candles will be raffled off. But (sadly?) not in the Netherlands. Where, then?

You must be at least 18, live in America and be a member of the American Ikea Family program to have a chance, because that’s where they’re celebrating ten years since the program was introduced there. Ikea is marking the occasion with anniversary editions of certain products and other special deals, so we’ll be missing out on those.

Are we missing out on anything? Hard to say. Personally, I’m quite happy for the smell of veggie meatballs to stay out of my bedroom, and I also like to ventilate properly while cooking, but if you’re a truly die-hard fan… Well, then perhaps you’d be better off making them yourself! After all, Ikea shared its recipe for Swedish meatballs some time ago (although the super-official recipe remains a secret), and believe us; it’s easier than assembling a Billy. And Ronald Giphart has also come up with a wonderfully delicious recipe for Swedish meatballs, so we’re perfectly fine, you know—we can let this one pass us by. Tack, Ikea!
