Incredible! New world record for longest baguette

UNESCO previously named the French baguette a cultural heritage site, and now there’s reason for another French celebration. A group of French bakers has set the world record for the longest baguette. The new world record stands at 140 metres and 53 centimetres. Incredible!

Baguettes taste like nowhere else in France. People in France agree; 10 million are eaten by the French every day. What figures! So you might think that baking the longest baguette would also be a typically French affair. But that turns out not to be the case. Italian bakers had been waving the trophy for longest baguette around for several years. You can imagine: not a nice sight for the chauvinistic French…

French bakers break world record

Yesterday, 5 May, a group of twelve French bakers in the municipality of Suresnes (west of Paris) brought the honour back to la douce France. After the bakers had started kneading furiously in the middle of the night, the official announcement was made some fourteen hours later. The new world record for the longest baguette was a fact.

The joyous achievement was celebrated with the ecstatic crowd and with the homeless people of Suresnes, who thoroughly enjoyed the enormous French baguette.
