Jumbo stops meat promotions

Jumbo has a goal. By 2030, the supermarket chain wants 60% of the proteins sold to be of plant-based origin and 40% to come from animal ingredients. To achieve this goal, Jumbo, as the first Dutch supermarket chain, is stopping meat promotions in all its stores and online. Next year, in 2025, half of the proteins should be plant-based. That is why Jumbo is now stopping the promotion of meat.

According to Jumbo, achieving this interim goal is only possible by stopping meat promotions. By stopping meat promotions, prices can also be kept low, says Jumbo. It is no rocket science that stopping promotions saves money. Supermarket chain Dirk stopped its TV commercials some time ago to keep prices low. That saves more than 35 percent of the total marketing budget.
No more ‘from/for offers’ on meat
Jumbo is therefore the first Dutch supermarket chain to stop meat promotions. However, this only applies to fresh meat, not processed meats. In concrete terms, this means that from week 22 (May 27, 2024), you will no longer see temporary price promotions (the so-called ‘from/for offers’) on fresh beef, fresh pork and fresh chicken at Jumbo. Whether this will actually ensure that people eat less meat remains to be seen.
