Lidl stops using plastic bags in the fruit and vegetable department
Buying fruit or vegetables at Lidl? Then you no longer have to look for a free plastic bag. From this week onwards, all disposable plastic fruit and vegetable bags have disappeared for good from Lidl’s fruit and vegetable department. For €0.30 per bag you can buy a reusable Lidl Green Bag.
Albert Heijn said goodbye to these so-called ‘vest bags’ some time ago. The plastic bags were retired and replaced by sustainable produce bags. And now you can no longer find disposable plastic bags in Lidl’s fruit and vegetable department either.

Although Lidl had already pioneered the sustainable alternative earlier; in 2018 the supermarket introduced the reusable Lidl Green Bag as a sustainable option alongside the vest bag. For years, there were therefore two options at Lild, but that has now come to an end. The free disposable plastic bags are definitively a thing of the past in Lidl’s fruit and vegetable department.
€0.30 per bag
Lidl has set itself the goal of reducing the plastic used in its packaging by at least 30 percent by 2025. The reusable Lidl Green Bags save a huge number of disposable bags every year. From now on, the reusable bags will be available as standard in all Lidl stores for €0.30 each. To help us get used to this transition, free reusable bags are available to the first customers at all Lidl stores in a separate display.
