Limoncello cheese exists – and we can’t wait to taste it
Lemon: the zesty little troublemaker you can use to bake the most delicious pies, soufflés and cakes. It’s also incredibly delicious in savoury dishes such as hummus or with this flatbread with burrata. But did you know that there is now also cheese flavoured with lemon and even, yes, limoncello?!
Cheese with a lemon flavour: that’s not so strange after all. Ricotta and lemon are a match made in heaven, for example, and homemade lemon curd served with cheese on a cheeseboard is absolutely delicious. So if cheese flavoured with our favourite liqueur, limoncello, is now available, it can’t be anything but delicious.
3 varieties
Supermarket Aldi is launching the lemon cheeses as a limited edition in three different varieties: Wensleydale (a young British cheese) with limoncello, White Stilton (a soft, creamy crumbly cheese) with lemon zest, and Wensleydale with lemon and honey, each costing around 4 dollars.

Only in America
Uhm, dollars? Yep. Unfortunately. So, for those who got so excited that they had already pulled their shopping bag out of the cupboard and were on their way to the supermarket, we have some slightly bad news. The cheeses are only available at Aldi in the United States. Aldi came up with the lemon cheeses together with Alex’s Lemonade Stand. It’s a charity that raises money for childhood cancer research in America. Aldi is therefore donating part of the proceeds from the cheeses to Alex’s Lemonade Stand. And that thoughtful gesture does comfort us a little.
Dutch limoncello cheese
Now all we can do is hope that a Dutch cheesemaker picks up this brilliant idea, so that we too can soon put some limoncello infused cheese on our cheeseboards.
