Bad food? Steal a tap!

You go somewhere to eat and it turns out to be less delicious than you had hoped. It happens to everyone from time to time. So it did to a 30-year-old man who didn’t find the food at Maccie very tasty. In court, he stated last week that he didn’t like the food at McDonald’s in Stadskanaal. He asked for his money back, didn’t get it, went to the toilet, where he dismantled the tap and then took it with him. Stealing a tap from McDonald’s because you don’t like the food?! The public prosecutor expressed surprise at the confused man’s actions and imposed a suspended community-service sentence of twenty hours, with a probationary period of one year.

Too much vitamin B12 is fatal

Vegans are often told that they should take plenty of vitamin B12 supplements, because they no longer get enough of it from animal products such as meat and milk. But now it turns out that too much vitamin B12 isn’t good at all. Scientists from the UMCG in Groningen are warning about the health risks of too much vitamin B12. According to the researchers, people with a higher level of this vitamin in their blood are more likely to die.

Snacking with Doutzen

Supermodel Doutzen Kroes shares all kinds of things about her life on her YouTube channel, such as her favorite snack. Forget Bolognese chips or Flemish fries; Doutzen loves… sauerkraut. While cooking, she simply eats it as is, straight from a bowl. Because she likes it, but also because it’s packed with probiotics. Now that Doutzen has unleashed her love of sauerkraut on the world, we’re holding our breath. After kale, we expect a sauerkraut trend to come charging at us in the wake of the already massively hyped kimchi (the Korean fermented cabbage).

Women drink cappuccino

The coffee habits of Dutch people in coffee bars were recently examined. Not entirely surprisingly, cappuccino, espresso and regular coffee occupy the top three spots. Cappuccino is the most popular coffee (57%) and is ordered mainly by women. Among women, a latte ranks second; espresso does not appear in their top three. Men prefer espresso, and 18% of men drink filter coffee, compared with just 4% of women.

The Netherlands’ first flavor park

The Netherlands’ first SmaakPark will be established in Ede this year. SmaakPark will be a cross between a food hall, cooking school, picking garden and food lab. Put more deliciously: a permanent food festival for everyone who loves good food—and, thankfully, where playing with food is allowed. SmaakPark isn’t being created just for fun, by the way; the owners also want to show how easy it is to help change our food system. By encouraging the use of local products and showing that growing and processing your own food is not only great fun, but above all very tasty. Shall we start with sauerkraut, then?
