French fries with cheese sauce and a cooking lesson from Paris Hilton: the most remarkable food news of the week

frietje met kaassaus

A lot happened again this week in the world of food. We served up the most notable news. From unexpected pig food to a cooking lesson from Paris Hilton and the very first döner kebab drive-thru in the Netherlands; this is what you need to know.

Pigs eat farmer

Say wut? Yes, really: an elderly Polish farmer who had been missing for some time was probably eaten by his own pigs. That is what the police currently believe, after finding several bones and a skull on the farmer’s property. The man probably collapsed around New Year’s as a result of a heart attack or stroke while he was fetching water from the well. The pigs on his farm roamed freely around the property and, hungry as they were, most likely ate their own farmer.

Panic! The cheese sauce is gone

If you introduce a cheese sauce that comes in an easy-to-use squeeze bottle and can be used both hot and cold, you can expect quite a stir. Remia had, however, underestimated demand somewhat and had almost run out of its entire trade-show supply of Creamy Cheese Style on the first day of Horecava. For the time being, the cheese sauce will only be available through wholesalers. Thanks to the popularity of the new sauce, we foresee a new snack-bar trend: fries with cheese sauce. For true enthusiasts: with extra bacon.

Watch football, grab a FEBO snack

Are you a fan of football club Almere City and do you like pulling a snack from the wall? Double happiness, because the recently renovated stadium of the Eerste Divisie club has teamed up with FEBO. Fans can now get their fill as quickly and efficiently as possible in the fifteen minutes before the match, during half-time and in the fifteen minutes after the match. A first for Almery City, as no other stadium has snack walls yet. We wouldn’t be surprised if other clubs followed this example. Ajax’s club colours match those of FEBO, so this seems like an easy win to us.

Döner kebab drive-thru

In the category ‘why wasn’t this thought of sooner?’: in February, the Netherlands’ first döner kebab drive-thru will open. A brilliant idea, as far as we’re concerned. The döner kebab drive-thru will be located in the car park of Makro in Duiven.

Cooking lessons from… Paris Hilton?!

No, we didn’t see that one coming either, but Paris Hilton has launched her own cooking show on YouTube: Cooking With Paris. “As you all know—well, maybe not all of you know—people who do know, know that I’m an amazing cook“, said the living Barbie doll in the first episode. Accompanied by her chihuahua Diamond Baby, Paris shows us how to make her famous lasagne. (Also check out the little Chanel outfit her dog is wearing especially for this video..). Hi-LA-RI-OUS.
