Martin has done it: visited all 255 McDonald’s restaurants

A hamburger from McDonald’s in Den Helder tastes exactly the same as one in Best or Middelburg. And Martin Nijkamp would know, because he has tasted them everywhere. He ate at all 255 Dutch McDonald’s locations, and on Wednesday, April 28, he will make the last two visits he still needed to complete his scrapbook.

Martin pasted the receipt from every meal at McDonald’s into a large book to keep track of his progress. He was almost finished; only two restaurants were missing: the McDonald’s locations behind customs at Schiphol. His plans to eat there last year, on his way to his summer holiday, fell through because of the coronavirus measures, but McDonald’s head office has arranged for Martin to visit on Wednesday after all, so he can eat the final two burgers in his collection.

Usually nuggets

Although, burgers? Martin usually orders the nuggets, as he can see from his receipts. Occasionally he orders something to drink as well, and he often shares his order with his friend Koen. Obstacles in completing this epic challenge: the McDonald’s in Groningen burned down, so he could no longer go there, and the locations in Delft and Uden moved after his visit, meaning he had to go there again.

Brabant first

This craziness started as a joke with friends. Martin said he wanted to visit all the Golden Arches in Brabant. That was quickly accomplished with ten locations, and then Martin kept going. And now: done, finished, completed. Does he already have a new challenge in mind?
