Massimo Bottura opens second Gucci Osteria in Los Angeles

Star chef and Netflix’s Chef’s Table star Massimo Bottura just keeps growing. Not around his waist, but in restaurants. In addition to his famous Osteria Francescana in Modena and restaurants in Florence and Dubai, his long-awaited Gucci restaurant in Los Angeles has now opened too.

Gucci restaurant? Does that mean eating among the couture? Well, not among it, but above it. On the top floor of the renovated Gucci store on the famous Rodeo Drive, to be precise. That means spotting stars during your star-studded meal.
On the menu
On the menu: ‘The American flavor profile, ingredients from California, but everything with an Italian touch,’ according to Massimo. Completely in LA style, more vegetarian and fish dishes are also served than at the Gucci Osteria in Florence.
Because no, this is not the first collaboration with Gucci. In January 2018, Massimo opened his first ‘Gucci Osteria’ in Florence. Not above a store, but above the Italian fashion house’s three-story exhibition space.
‘Budget’
There, you can eat burgers, pastas, baos and tacos for 20 to 35 euros each. Not cheap, but certainly star-worthy, because with Mexican chef Karime Lòpez at the helm, they earned a Michelin star within two years. It is up to chef Mattia Agazzi to pull off the same ‘job’. Whether the prices—as with everything in LA—are considerably higher is not yet known.
Childhood friends
The collaboration between Gucci and Massimo may sound like it came out of nowhere, but the Italian chef is a childhood friend of Gucci’s CEO: Mario Bizzarri. The two were in the same class for five years and say they share the same vision. ‘The medium through which we express it is simply different.’
World domination
Will Massimo’s growth stop here? Definitely not. Massimo has already announced that new food halls in San Francisco, Tokyo and Yucatán are in the works. You won’t hear us complaining.
