Matcha lovers, this is what you want: the Matcha Martini

A matcha latte is delicious. But can that stunning green drink be more exciting? How? By turning it into a Matcha Martini. And it’s so easy to make.

In case you genuinely have no idea what matcha is (it happens, no judgment): it’s a Japanese green tea. The tea leaves are ground and dried into a powder, and by mixing that with water or milk, you get matcha tea or a matcha latte. It tastes sweet, but also a little bitter. You have to develop a taste for it. FavorFlav’s Wieke didn’t get it at first, but eventually learned to appreciate it.

Matcha Martini

Wieke became a matcha drinker mainly thanks to the Matcha Margarita. A smart tactic for learning to enjoy something, let’s put it that way. So we know that matcha works perfectly in a cocktail. I have to be honest: I find the Matcha Martini even more appealing than the Matcha Margarita. Deliciously creamy and a beautiful, not overly toxic green color.

Making a Matcha Martini

How do you make a Matcha Martini? First, prepare the matcha itself. Do this by stirring the matcha powder with a little water until smooth. Ideally, use a special matcha whisk, but a small whisk works perfectly well too. Then add the matcha and ice cubes to your cocktail shaker. Top it up with the vodka, syrup and white chocolate liqueur. Shake vigorously, finish with some matcha powder as a garnish and cocktail hour can begin.

Will this become the new Espresso Martini? Or the exciting version of the (by now slightly overused) matcha latte?
