Michelin changes tack: new restaurants every month

Once a year, all restaurant chefs are stressed out, because that’s when the Michelin Guide is published. Are they in it? Will they get a star? Maybe a Bib? They’ll now have that stress all year round, because Michelin has decided to change tack. Every month, they will announce new listings.

Michelin’s inspectors naturally dine out critically throughout the year, notebook at the ready. But until this year, they kept their findings until the official moment when the new Michelin Guide was released. Only then could restaurants read whether they had been listed, and if so, how. That is going to change.
Day of reckoning
Every month, it’s time: the third Wednesday of the month is the day of reckoning. That’s when the new listings appear on the website. The first time the inspectors share their findings is October 20. You can easily pick the new names out of the list, because they have the word ‘new’ next to them. They aren’t saying yet whether those listings deserve a star, a Bib or merely a listing.
Chefs under stress
And wait, that guide is going to change too. It used to be a booklet, but nowadays the findings are published online only. And if you think ambitious chefs will be less stressed because of all these changes: think again, because the announcement of the stars remains a major event every year. In March 2022, it will be the Netherlands’ turn again. And as if Michelin stress alone weren’t enough, there are also the nail-biting lists Lekker500, Gault-Millau and our own FavorFlav Food Top 100. Chamomile tea is said to have a calming effect.
