To make it easy for animal-loving drinks-and-snacks fans too, Kwekkeboom has launched a vegetarian bitterball. Do you have an oven? Or an airfryer? You’re good to go! Because these bitterballen were made especially for them.

Drinks-and-snacks time is the best time

JoorKitchen teamed up with Kwekkeboom to create this board featuring the animal-friendly snacks, complemented by garlic mushrooms and bread with seasoned herb butter. Tip: prepare the bitterballen as shortly before serving as possible, but let them rest for two minutes, so they’re at their most delicious – and it saves you a few second-degree burns (or are we the only ones who always get those with bitterballen?).

How to make the garlic mushrooms

  • Quarter 250 g chestnut mushrooms, stems included.
  • Heat a frying pan with oil over medium-high heat and fry the mushrooms for 6–7 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Add a finely chopped or crushed garlic clove one minute before the end of the cooking time.
  • Season the mushrooms with pepper and salt and sprinkle with fresh parsley.

How to make the rosemary herb butter

  • Bring 150 g herb butter to room temperature.
  • Crush or finely chop a garlic clove.
  • Strip the leaves from 2 sprigs of rosemary and chop them as finely as possible.
  • Mix the softened butter with the rosemary and garlic, and season generously with pepper and salt.
  • Keep refrigerated until ready to use.
  • Serve with bread.
