Thirsty tales

New on Netflix: Uncorked

Uncorked-Favorflav

We know films about people who want to become world-famous dancers or top chefs. But the dream of becoming a sommelier has never been made into a film. Until now, in the film Uncorked. Netflix is putting it online at the end of March.

Not only are restaurants closing because of the coronavirus outbreak, film premieres are being cancelled too. Such as the premiere of the arthouse film Uncorked, which was due to be shown for the first time at the super-hip South by Southwest festival. Now its Netflix screening is the film’s premiere. Well, it’ll have to do.

Wine with the ribs

So, wine is your thing? Elijah’s girlfriend Tanya asks him. She’s right: he wants to become a master sommelier, but his father would rather he take over the family business. It’s a spareribs restaurant, where there isn’t much demand for wine advice with the barbecued ribs. All the clichés are true: Elijah perseveres, has doubts and triumphs. And his parents will probably come around too, because that’s how it always goes in films like this. Tissues at the ready, glass of wine poured? We’re completely ready for Uncorked.
