New: Pacific reopens in Westerpark

This weekend there will be a sneak preview opening of Pacific in Westerpark in Amsterdam. And expect quite a change: new chefs, a new menu, a new interior and new programming.

There has been quite a bit of fuss surrounding the ‘institution’ Pacific (formerly Pacific Parc). It was taken over with the promise that nothing would change, only to close six months later for renovation and renewal: the old concept turned out not to be profitable enough. People were rather angry about that, but emotions have since settled and a festive reopening is just around the corner.
All day long
The revamped Pacific promises to be an all-in-one destination: from nine in the morning, you can stop by for a cup of coffee, and in the afternoon for lunch or a beer on the terrace. In the evening, dinner will receive much more attention, so it will no longer be all about club nights. “You can come to us for an all-in evening where you can have drinks, then eat, after which the tables and chairs are pushed aside and you can party,” co-owner Michel Penders explains about the new concept.
From the barbecue
Two new chefs have been hired, Milas van der Plaats and Robbert-Hein van Oppenraaij; they already knew each other from the restaurant Vuurtoreneiland. “They have already worked a lot with open fire. Ideal, because a large charcoal barbecue has been installed in the kitchen.”
And what can we expect on the menu? “Cod with white asparagus and asparagus jus, roasted kohlrabi with cured cheese, grains and basil, or grilled leek with potato foam, crispy potato and seaweed broth. But we also have a rib roast of Dutch beef from the barbecue,” Michel says.
More light
Everything in the building has been completely changed, from an entirely new kitchen to the paint on the walls. “When you walk into the renovated Pacific, it will look completely different. Expect earthy colors, shades of gray, wood, large plants and lots of light. The layout remains the same: the restaurant area is on the waterfront and the bar/club area is on the other side.”

The sneak preview runs from Thursday, May 9 through Sunday, May 12, from 3:00 p.m. After that, the place will be open on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. and on weekends from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m.
