Nutella launches vegan variant

Nutella en vegan Nutella

If there’s one chocolate spread that gets people talking, it’s Nutella. Whether it’s about mispronouncing the name or the little knife in the Nutella lid; Nutella knows how to delight (and stir up) fans worldwide. Now it’s all about the latest Nutella. Because it’s vegan.

Yes, you read that right: Nutella has launched a plant-based version. And coincidentally in the year that Ferrero, the producer of Nutella, celebrates its sixtieth anniversary.

Ingredients in vegan Nutella

In Nutella Plant Based (as it is officially called), the milk has been replaced by plant-based ingredients such as chickpeas and rice syrup. More specifically, vegan Nutella contains sugar, palm oil, hazelnuts, chickpeas, low-fat cocoa, rice syrup powder, emulsifiers: lecithins [SOYA]; salt and flavourings. Although the new Nutella has been approved by the Vegetarian Society, the spread may contain milk because it is produced in a factory where milk is also processed.

According to Nutella’s Research and Development department, rice syrup helps provide the same melting, delicate sweetness as milk powder, while chickpea flour gives the balanced taste and texture that perfectly complement the recipe’s other ingredients.

The Netherlands will follow in 2025. Not travelling and feeling impatient? Then take a look at where you can find it online; there are several suppliers.
