OH NO: a huge Sriracha shortage is looming

Panic! And not just a little bit, either. A gigantic shortage of sriracha is looming. Noooo!

Because if there’s one sauce we can’t live without, it’s sriracha. From a sriracha snack nut to sriracha chips and from honey-sriracha popcorn to Ottolenghi’s shakshuka with sriracha butter: the spicy sauce = life.
Poor harvest
But the sauce’s maker recently announced that a shortage is on the way. A worldwide shortage. What a nightmare. How did this happen? Partly because of the coronavirus crisis, when the company (Huy Fong Inc.) couldn’t get hold of enough chili peppers to keep up with demand. The number one reason is the poor weather conditions last spring, which resulted in a significantly worse chili pepper harvest than usual.
Heatless summer
And without chili peppers, there’s no sriracha. Huy Fong Inc. has therefore announced that it will no longer accept orders for the time being. What might bring a tiny bit of light at the end of this heatless tunnel is that the shortages will most likely be resolved again in September. So hang in there a little longer (and go look for an extra bottle)!
