Oh no: Japan is facing a serious French fry shortage
What a DRAMA Japan is facing right now. And no, I’m not talking about Omicron or yet another new variant that has been spotted; I’m talking about something that’s at least just as bad. At Japanese Maccie’s, you can temporarily only order a ‘small’ portion of fries. And why? Because the country is dealing with a serious potato shortage. Disastrous.
And that shortage is due to flooding in Canada, because a lot of it took place near a port in Vancouver last week. And wouldn’t you know it, that’s exactly where the potatoes bound for Japan are loaded. Total panic.
Help is on the way
This situation is obviously untenable, and they realise that there too. That’s why McDonald’s Japan has already flown Boeing loads of fries back and forth, and is still doing so as we speak. As a result, you can still order fries at the Golden Arches for now, but because of the shortage only in the smallest size. As compensation, customers do get 40 cents off their meals.
And then perhaps the worst part: the situation is not expected to be resolved until after New Year’s. So anyone who wants to stop by Maccie’s on January 1st, seriously hungover, for one of those large portions of limp, salty fries… will be disappointed. Let’s hope this dire situation is resolved quickly.
