Oh yes: Lidl is selling a giant pink iced cake

Lidl roze koek

Mille-feuille cake, apple pie or Snickers MonChou cake; all three are delicious. But oh my: have you heard of the pink iced cake?

Maybe not (yet). But you probably know the bright pink and ridiculously sweet iced cakes from the cafeteria back in the day. And although you may recognize them from the cafeteria, pink iced cakes are also sold in many supermarkets. Of course, we tested and tasted them extensively to find out which supermarket has the tastiest pink iced cakes on its shelves, and the result was a surprising winner (and loser).

Pink-and-orange party

Lidl is now selling 49 traditional Dutch specialties especially for the upcoming King’s Day, including almond cookies, candy canes, croquettes in rolls, pork cracklings and the pink iced cake. This cake is basically just an XL pink iced cake covered in a thick layer of pink fondant, with a small layer of jam on the bottom to give it that extra cake feeling. Ideal, then, for putting on the table during our orange-themed party.

The pink iced cake is available in Lidl supermarkets from today for €2.99.
