Opening soon: Dutch Courage cocktail bar

Cocktail heroes Tess Posthumus and Timo Janse are opening a cocktail bar on Amsterdam’s Zeedijk in April. A brand-new bar, but with an old soul, because Tess and Timo will be serving genever and old Dutch liqueurs here. ‘We want people to fall in love with genever again.’

An evening of drinking cocktails at Dutch Courage is essentially a liquid history lesson. Did you know, for example, that English soldiers took a generous sip of genever during the Eighty Years’ War before daring to enter the battle? And that Dutch genever was widely traded for centuries? And that at the beginning of the last century, it was used in one out of every four American cocktails? No? Then sign up for some further training at Dutch Courage.
A quality kopstootje
‘At Dutch Courage, we want our guests to fall in love with genever and other beautiful distillates all over again, such as Dutch gin, rum and brandy,’ says Tess Posthumus. ‘The Zeedijk, historically a neighbourhood where herbs and spices entered the country, is the ideal location for this.’ Alongside a cocktail based on Dutch history, Tess and Timo will also serve a quality kopstootje.
Just a little longer…
Just a little more patience—the new bar won’t open until April. Can’t wait? Then drop by Flying Dutchmen, Tess Posthumus and Timo Janse’s first cocktail bar.
