Our tips for Taste of Amsterdam 2017

From 2 to 5 June, restaurant festival Taste of Amsterdam will once again take over Amstelpark. Workshops, chefs, lots of drinks and a whole lot of chefs—the programme is packed. A selection of our favourites that you definitely shouldn’t miss this year.

BAUT

The whole FavorFlav team is a fan of BAUT, the travelling restaurant that you can nowadays find in Amsterdam-Oost as Paradijs. During Taste, chef Michiel van der Eerde and his team will serve three dishes. The artichoke with truffle, Parmesan and pine nuts has made me extremely curious.

Brouwerij Troost

One of my favourite breweries in Amsterdam for a special beer. During Taste, Troost will pour five types of locally brewed Amsterdam beer. More than enough to cool down in the sun, then. And when you say beer, I immediately think of snacks. Luckily, there are some too. The beer bitterballen made with Weizen, for example.

Butcher’s Heaven by Julius Jaspers

Say jalapeño-cheddar sausage with potato salad and you immediately have my attention. At Jaspers, it’s all about barbecue. Also having trouble choosing? Then go for the mixed grill with half a sausage, pork neck and tenderloin.

De Kruidfabriek by Lute

Editor in chief Marcus already wrote a raving review of Peter Lute’s latest book. During Taste, I’m especially looking forward to the crispy polenta fries with Sorento lemon, basil and oxtail rillette, and the ceviche with hanging herb chips and vadouvan.

The Gastronomic Destination by Lyon Tourism Board

Ah Lyon, truly one of the finest food cities in Europe and the home of culinary legend Paul Bocuse. When I was there, I was so overwhelmed that I didn’t know what I wanted to eat first. Anyway, definitely worth a visit—and at Taste, you’ll discover why.

The perfect chicken – Big Green Egg workshop

No idea how to cook on a BGE, or already skilled and keen to learn even more of the finer points? During this workshop, specialist Leonard Elenbaas will teach you how to prepare the perfect whole chicken on the Big Green Egg.

AEG Tasteology

There’s all sorts to see here. Jonnie Boer and Jan Smink from three-Michelin-starred restaurant De Librije show you that cooking at a high level with the right ingredients and equipment really is achievable for home cooks. Chef with attitude Nigel van der Horst shows you what you can create in the AEG SteamPro steam oven, while Edwin Klaassen demonstrates in the Baking Lab how to bake the perfect bread.

Tickets for Taste of Amsterdam can be ordered online for €12 (including booking fees). A ticket is valid for one of the four days, on a day of your choice. A multi-day pass (€22) gives access to all days.
