People in shock over prices at the newest concert venue Sphere in Las Vegas
There’s a good chance you’ve seen the footage passing by on social media: Las Vegas’s newest concert venue, the Sphere. U2 had the honor of opening this venue, which owes its name to its sphere-like shape. It cost 2.3 billion dollars to build and features the largest LED screen in the world. The Sphere is also bizarre to see from the outside: all kinds of visual spectacles are projected onto the exterior as well.
That must all cost a pretty penny, right? Well, those costs have to be recouped somehow… But as a result, people are now completely in shock over the drink prices inside.
A small bottle of water already costs a fortune
And that’s the cheapest item on the drinks menu, costing you 7 dollars. It reminded me of Ibiza prices: a glass of wine costs 20 dollars, which is the same price as a cocktail such as a Paloma or a Margarita. But if you want a more exclusive cocktail (one of the specialty cocktails), you’ll pay 30 dollars. And don’t forget that in America, it’s also important to tip…
People on Reddit are pretty pissed off about that too: instead of a 20 percent tip option (as is customary), they had 20 dollars listed. DOLLARS. That means you end up paying 40 dollars in total for a Paloma. What a rip-off. A beautiful venue, sure, that Sphere — but having a drink there is unaffordable.
