This year, you can visit a real pistachio festival in Italy. It’s small, it’s cozy and almost no non-Italian knows about it. You’ll want to go here!
Okay, we admit that we were a little tired of pistachios. You saw them e-ve-ry-where. From the Dubai chocolate bar to pistachio ice cream, we couldn’t escape the green nut last year. It was too much. But does that mean we no longer want to eat pistachios? Absolutely not. We still think they’re the tastiest eat-straight-from-the-fist nut there is. So the pistachio festival in Italy is marked in huge letters in our calendar.
La Citta del Pistachio
Sagra del Pistacchio Verde di Bronte takes place in Bronte, a small town in Sicily. It’s just a stone’s throw from Mount Etna. Bronte is also known as la Citta del Pistachio : the Pistachio Town. Why? Because pistachio trees grow abundantly on the slopes of Mount Etna. The soil gives the pistachios that fantastic deep-green color and an intense flavor. Pistachios taste like nowhere else here, and the residents are—quite rightly—very proud of that.
Everything pistachio
During Sagra del Pistacchio Verde di Bronte, you can completely immerse yourself in pistachios. The nut is celebrated on a grand scale. All along the streets, stalls sell homemade pistachio products. And yes: of course, you can taste them too. Pasta, arancini, sandwiches, meat, desserts, sweet pastries, savory pastries, ice cream, cheese… Everything is covered with pistachio cream, pistachio sauce or chopped pistachios. There are 72 types of stalls, so you’ll be occupied for a while. Bring a big bag, too. After all, you can never have enough jars of pistachio spread and fresh pistachios.
Pistachio festival dates
The festival takes place annually around September–October. The dates have not yet been finalized, as the people depend on the pistachio harvest. When the pistachios are ready, Bronte is ready too. And then everyone is welcome to celebrate pistachios to the fullest. For now, you can put October 3 to 12 in your calendar.
