Recipe: how to make an insanely delicious Frisco Melt

Frisco Melt thuis maken

Oh wow; this sandwich is dangerously delicious! Dangerous, because you simply make it between two slices of bread and could easily forget that you’re actually eating an incredibly delicious, greasy gooey cheeseburger with Special Sauce (!), and before you know it, you’ll be having this for lunch every day under the guise of ‘come on, it’s just a sandwich anyway’…

Maybe not the healthiest idea. But definitely make this delicious Frisco Melt (based on the one from American Steak ’n’ Shake) at least once, or every now and then, to indulge in some seriously tasty comfort food, and then use the rest of that insanely delicious sauce on all kinds of other savory sandwiches!

How to make the Frisco Melt

  • Mix all the sauce ingredients in a bowl.
  • Place a frying pan over high heat and lightly grease it with olive oil or spray.
  • Divide the meat into 2 flat burgers (patties).
  • Fry them in the pan until cooked through and try to turn them only once – this gives you the crispiest layer on the outside.
  • Turn off the heat and wipe the frying pan clean with some kitchen paper.
  • Start building the sandwich: place the slices of mature cheese on one slice of bread.
  • Place one burger patty on top.
  • Add the cheddar, and place the second patty on top.
  • Spread the sauce (lots of it) on one side of the second slice of bread and place the sauced side on top of the tower.
  • Now place the frying pan over medium-high heat and add a small knob of butter to the pan.
  • Once the butter has melted, carefully place the sandwich in the pan.
  • Move the sandwich back and forth a little to soak up the butter and let it become crisp.
  • Spread a little more butter on the top slice of bread.
  • After a few minutes, when the bottom is golden brown and the cheese starts to melt, carefully turn the sandwich over and repeat the process on the other side.
  • Ready? Enjoy!
