Cheese fondue, chocolate fondue, Asian broth fondue… come on, that all just screams ‘YES, YEAH, COMFORT FOOD’, right?! Fonduing our way through life is something we can definitely get behind. Especially when we add pizza fondue to the repertoire!

Pizza fondue? Yes, you can take that fairly literally. At least, if you’re willing to keep your back straight when both Italians and Swiss people get angry with you, and simply carry on dipping all kinds of things into a delicious fondue of cheese, tomato sauce and herbs (basically everything you’d normally find on a pizza).

All the good things about pizza in one little pot

And it’s fun too, just like dipping your baguette or raw vegetables into a pot of cheese fondue with others (and hoping you’ll find some sunken radishes in the cheese bath at the end). So if you fancy something other than ‘pure’ cheese, try varying things up with this fondue, adding red sauce (or pizza sauce), some Italian spices and herbs such as fennel seeds and oregano, and plenty of deliciously melting mozzarella. The best part is that you can of course also use any cheese you like!

Also prepare a platter with things to dip into the fondue. It can be as simple as a baguette and breadsticks or old-school garlic bread, but you can also go all out with lots of sliced raw vegetables. Fun to make together and incredibly tasty; you really have to give it a try!

How to make pizza fondue

  • Preheat the oven to 180° C.
  • Set half of the mozzarella aside for now.
  • Grease a round ovenproof dish with butter or olive oil.
  • Put the remaining cheeses in the dish and mix.
  • Pour the tomato sauce and herbs over them, then sprinkle the remaining mozzarella on top.
  • Place in the oven for around half an hour, until the cheeses have melted nicely and are bubbling.
  • In the meantime, prepare everything you want to dip into the fondue.
  • Serve immediately when the pizza fondue comes out of the oven for optimal cheese pulls, but of course be careful not to burn your mouth.
