Recipe: Love sausage rolls? Make a festive sausage roll star

Cocktail sausages in puff pastry; who doesn’t know them? In England, they call the snack Pigs in a blanket (but have you also tried them in a quilt). Here, we simply give the treat a thoroughly Dutch name: the sausage roll star.

Festive, easy and incredibly delicious: this sausage roll star with a dip of sour cream, mustard and chives is the life of every (old-fashioned) drinks platter. A cocktail sausage rolled in a piece of puff pastry—that’s all there is to it. And hey, double-dipping is allowed!

How to make the sausage roll star
- Preheat the oven to 180 °C. Cut each sheet of pizza dough into 5 long strips. Then cut each strip into five pieces (75 strips in total).
- Sprinkle the dough with ¾ tbsp oregano. Place a sausage on each piece of dough and roll it up in the dough.
- Place the ovenproof bowl in the centre of the baking sheet. Arrange the sausage rolls upright around it. Make 2 circles this way, followed by a star made from all the rolls. Brush the tops and sides with the beaten egg and sprinkle with the remaining oregano.
- Place the baking sheet in the centre of the oven and bake for 25–30 min. until golden brown and cooked through.
- Stir the sour cream, mustard and chives together in a bowl. Serve the sauce in a small bowl that fits in the centre of the star, where the ovenproof bowl was. Remove the baking sheet from the oven. Remove the ovenproof bowl and slide the sausage roll star onto a large plate. Place the bowl of sauce in the centre of the star.
