pour me a drink
Recipe: pink vodka slush puppies

Go on, admit it: your drinks cabinet is overflowing. When I realised on The Friday when the shit went down in our country what was waiting for us, I didn’t go to the supermarket, but drove straight to the liquor store. And I really didn’t stockpile, but I did bring home one bottle of several types of drink (that doesn’t count as stockpiling, I think). So vodka slushies; at the next virtual Friday afternoon drinks, you’re all going down! Or, let me be honest: tonight already.

For the presentation, you need to hollow out a few lemons. You use some of the insides, and of course you don’t throw away the rest! Soon you’ll have super-convenient lemon juice on hand for whiskey sours with that whiskey you probably bought too, vinaigrette, pasta vongole, shakshuka, in short: it’ll get used…
How to make the pink vodka slush puppies
- In a measuring jug, make 250 ml of grenadine lemonade, slightly sweeter than you would normally drink it.
- Using a spoon (if you have one; a grapefruit spoon like that), carefully hollow out the lemons.
- Take the lemon insides in your (clean) hand and squeeze all the juice out over a bowl.
- Pour 10 ml of juice from the bowl through a small sieve into the measuring jug with the lemonade; pour the rest of the juice from the bowl through the sieve into a clean jar to keep.
- Pour the lemon-grenadine into a blender with the vodka and ice cubes.
- Blend until smooth.
- Spoon the mixture into the empty lemon halves using an ice cream scoop, garnish with a mint leaf, serve immediately and slurp away.
