Sergio Herman wins big at Belgian Michelin ceremony

Nail-biting chefs and maîtres with spots on their necks, because today the Michelin stars for Belgium and Luxembourg were announced. The big winner is Sergio Herman, as his new restaurant immediately received a star too. This year, Michelin is also awarding green stars to sustainable restaurants.

The Michelin Guide awards ceremony for Belgium and Luxembourg was postponed from November to January—the reason is easy to guess. That meant two more months of uncertainty for the restaurant world, but today the moment has finally arrived. Hot news: Belgium now has a three-star restaurant, namely Zilte in Antwerp. The restaurant on the top floor of the Aan de Stroom Museum unquestionably has the finest view of the city; the menu features a great deal of fish.
Six stars, one chef
The big winner of the shower of stars is Sergio Herman. Last year, he opened a new restaurant in Antwerp, Le Pristine. It received a star today. The Jane, his other restaurant in Antwerp, retains the two stars already attached to its façade. His chic beach restaurant Pure C, in Cadzand-Bad, also has two stars, while AIR Republic in Cadzand has one. Let’s add it up: six stars for one chef—that must be more or less a record. It must be a bizarre time for the top chef, as he announced last week that his relationship with Ellemieke Vermolen had ended.
Sustainable
Restaurants committed to sustainability could earn a special green Michelin star this year. Ten restaurants received the distinction. The Dutch Michelin Guide will be presented on 29 March 2021.
