Shameless catering at the Dutch GP: disgusting burgers, gross Turkish pizzas and frikandellen for €6.50?!

Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has devoured at least 2,000 burgers in his lifetime, suspects that there is more mayonnaise in his body than blood, and shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav. This time, he vents about the shamelessly terrible food at the Dutch GP in Zandvoort.

This weekend was quite a challenge for the food and drink section of the Formula 1 spectacle by the sea. After all, with around a hundred thousand visitors per day, there are a lot of mouths to feed. Yet the offerings (and especially the quality) can vary wildly from event to event of this scale. While I ate five-star birria tacos (the food hype of 2023) and lahmacun (Turkish pizza) at Lowlands, Snackspert had to make do with a deeply disappointing hamburger during the Grand Prix.
Dutch GP: gross Turkish pizzas and frikandellen for €6.50
Yes, it’s great that Max Verstappen won and vroom vroom, the Dutch GP in Zandvoort is over once again. Bring on next year. The organization will undoubtedly be evaluating everything in the coming period, and praise for how everything was arranged, truly, but shall we agree to raise the catering standards? Of course, some of the crowd is already drunk by lunchtime and just wants food, regardless of how it tastes, but come on, an event of this scale does not deserve bad catering. Because it was TERRIBLE. Several people messaged me about gross Turkish pizzas and frikandellen for €6.50, and you can say, “yes, but it’s a large event,” but so was Lowlands, and there you can actually get tasty food. This burger, for example. They had run out of cheese (how?), so I ended up with a bun containing a reheated burger, watery tomato, a little onion and really gross sweet ketchup. It was awful, like walking over a few LEGO bricks. The pain this bun causes is absolutely unprecedented. No, the Dutch GP deserves better. A big event deserves big food. Bring on next year. Vroom. ⭐️
