Snackspert is a fan: “Mayam’s bapao is the very best of its kind, a brilliant supermarket snack!”

Mayam bapao

Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has devoured at least 1,000 burgers in his life, suspects there’s more mayonnaise in his body than blood, and shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav every other week. This week he found the ultimate bapao bun and ate spareribs that were even drier than the desert…

Like Mocro Flavor by Like Meat

This may well be the strangest collaboration ever, with the dumbest pun ever, but I was still curious about those vegan Like Mocro Flavour pieces by Ali B that are suddenly available everywhere. But right after the first bite, I knew for sure: this tastes fan-tas-tic. I simply have to admit it: this may well be the tastiest vegan supermarket product there is. And that’s down to the following factors: an excellent texture, wonderfully tender, exceptionally well-seasoned—just a little too much cinnamon, but that’s it. I’d happily put this on a bun every day, with plenty of sriracha mayonnaise on top. You have celebrities who take part in terrible shampoo commercials, and apparently you also have well-known Dutch people who lend their name to genuinely good brands. And Ali B has managed to do just that. Nicely done. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

“Famous Ribs” in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium

Just because a place in Belgium is recommended very often doesn’t automatically mean it’s actually any good. Because, you know, the popular Amadeus restaurant (in Sint-Niklaas, Ghent, Antwerp, and so on) really doesn’t have the best ribs in the country. It may even have some of the least tasty ribs our neighboring country has to offer. Why “Famous for Ribs”? I’ve eaten sandboxes in my life that were more tender. Just kidding. But this was a dry affair. It took a lot of effort to bite the meat off the bones, and a lot of sauce was needed to make it even remotely tender. The only thing I really enjoyed was that baked potato with magical garlic butter that I still think about every week, but that’s also the only thing worth visiting for. Belgium, do something about this. ⭐️⭐️

Mayam’s Bapao

Right, everyone calm down and pay attention for a moment, because this is a review of vital importance. For quite some time, I thought Topking’s Vlambapao and Lidl’s frozen bapao were truly the very best of their kind, but we’ve found a formidable opponent. As if Putin were threatening to lose the elections to another semi-well-known candidate. It’s unprecedented: Mayam’s pork-filled bapao is the Cristiano Ronaldo of supermarket snacks. Indestructible, untamable, actually delivers—the list goes on. The bapao is succulent, the meat inside is as juicy as a pack of Taksi you got when you were five. And it’s deliciously spicy too—not as hot as the Vlambapao, but definitely spicier than the average spicy haircut. What a winner. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
