I’ve said it many times: Kwekkeboom’s Old Amsterdam bitterballen are the best snacks you can find in the supermarket. But now there are also Old Amsterdam cheese sticks, made by manufacturer TopKing! And a cheese stick always hits the spot. Seriously, I have never seen anyone refuse a cheese stick on a terrace (remember terraces? It was always so much fun there). Because they’re always delicious. And so are the Old Amsterdam cheese sticks. I love that melted cheese, man. You can hardly mess up a snack like that; it’s practically impossible. But, just to play the critical reviewer: I thought they were a little too thin. They could have been thicker, so there could have been more cheese inside. Now they were gone even faster than festival tickets after this coronavirus crisis. I want more. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Nothing to do on Saturday? And coincidentally in (the area around) Amsterdam? Great, then I have a Noordermarkt/Lindengrachtmarkt tip for you. Abu Salie with his sabich sandwich. Pure love. Pure perfection. I could devote many words to it, but when describing someone attractive, you also just say: yes, they’re simply attractive. Well, that’s how I feel about this sabich sandwich too. For those who don’t know what it is: sabich is a pita filled with fried eggplant (so deliciously soft, yum), a hard-boiled egg, tahini sauce, hummus, chickpeas and some fresh herbs. After one bite, you experience so many different flavours that you feel like you’re sitting in a 4D cinema, because good grief, sometimes you don’t know what to focus on. What a sandwich. I’ll be getting it again soon. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Frikandel XXL, ‘t Smulpunt, Vlieland
“During a pandemic, I’m happy to be on Vlie” was perhaps one of the loveliest texts I saw on a bag during my weekend on Vlieland. It’s just that I had already discovered this XXL frikandel from snack bar ‘t Smulpunt; otherwise, that bag would have been the highlight. No, the XXL frikandel really was the highlight of the weekend. I only have one motto, namely: if you come across an XXL frikandel, consider it a blessing. Because when you see one, you have to order it. Really. I went for a classic version, with a generous dollop of mayonnaise on the side. The XXL frikandel was extra thick, extra long, pure indulgence. It is genuinely the best frikandel in existence, so hats off to ‘t Smulpunt on Vlieland for putting it on display. It’s almost pure perfection in your mouth. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
