Snackspert is wildly enthusiastic about the new Loempidel
Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has devoured at least 1,000 burgers in his life, suspects there is more mayonnaise in his body than blood, and shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav every other week. This week, pleasure and utter misery alternated.
McRib-style sandwich from Smells Good in the Hood, Rotterdam
If you had to choose between breakfast in bed and a very unclear coloring page from your child because it’s Father’s Day, or a Dr. Pepper-marinated McRib-style sandwich (a chef’s special) from Smells Good in the Hood in Rotterdam, then the question is obviously: how quickly can you get yourself seated on that terrace? Because my goodness what a sandwich this is, the kind of horny-night-with-that-one-you’ve-been-in-love-with-for-so-long level. The meat is wonderfully tender, the relish (with gherkins) is deliciously sour and spicy, and the sweet sauce on top creates a better balance than North Macedonia’s midfield at this European Championship. The only downside is the price of 12.50 euros, which is quite expensive in my opinion, but after this sandwich you think: still worth it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Pizza Buns from Lidl
Here comes a food warning: Lidl’s pizza buns, especially the bell pepper flavor, are so tasteless that you then get yourself tested for COVID because you genuinely think you’ve lost your sense of taste. And I would know. It’s of course a very fun snack to serve during football matches, but believe me, a failed cross by Promes looks better. It’s a mouthful, but the cheese is very musty, and the bell pepper was washed in water for so long that all the flavor has fallen off—I can’t find any other explanation. No, you can avoid this. What a tasteless mess. ⭐️

Dylan Haegens’ Loempidel
Now that’s a bucket-list item: launching your own snack across the whole of the Netherlands. Nice work, @dylanhaegens. And what a snack it is. A long time ago, I reviewed the ‘regular’ loempidel and awarded it 4 stars, and now, in 2021, there is finally a vegetarian loempidel too. And you know what? I like it better than the average vegetarian frikandel. Now I should emphasize that the perfect vegetarian frikandel still doesn’t exist—I have serious doubts that it will ever be achieved at all. But the nice thing about the loempidel is the sweet sauce inside. It camouflages the somewhat dry taste of soy, which is exactly what I find so irritating about the average vegetarian frikandel. You could actually say: the loempidel is much more suitable as a vegetarian frikandel. A coating around such a pleasure stick is really a safe choice for everyone. One small criticism: more sauce in the coating next time. I want to see it leak. But otherwise: top vegetarian snack. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
